Democracy needs Guardians
Good Luck Republic, that's the name after all of this newsletter. I worked the previous cycle for a Super Pac here in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania. I also thought that our Democracy, for the most part, was secure once we defeated the would-be dictator, Mr. Trump. I and so many others were incorrect. He remains a clear threat to our democratic institutions. Institutions are much larger than anyone one man and certainly much more significant than anyone citizen. We must be willing to tell the truth at all times, even when that truth is not kind to the fairy tale version of our America. America primarily taught in our history classes unless some fortunate soul takes an advanced placement course or can afford a college education, but I digress.
The fairy tale version of America is where institutions already protect Democracy. The idea that our institutions would save us from chaos. The European nations experienced disorder during the two world wars and the post-war period where Democracies were still fragile. America broadly has never felt that moment before until now, and it took Donald Trump to shock the nation to its core. Shaken some to its core anyway, Republicans still pretend like it's no big deal that Mr. Trump attempted to have the former Vice President hanged all for the sole purpose of presenting Joe Biden the presidency. Biden won, but now we must fight to secure our Democratic institutions. The institutions need protection.
