Georgia on my mind
The Washington Post revealed today that Mr. Trump attempted to have votes thrown out and try to have himself declared the winner of Georgia's sixteen electoral votes. As anyone with half a brain knows, the state of Georgia was won by President-Elect Joe Biden, who will take office in less than twenty days. No amount of rewriting of the record will change this. No amount of Republican objections to the official electoral vote count will change the facts.
On Tuesday, voters in Georgia will return to the polls to elect two Senators. I'd encourage Georgia's people to vote for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, mainly because these two candidates don't believe in the overthrow of Democracy. What we are witnessing at this moment in American history is a political party gripped by authoritarianism. As much as I and others would like to tell ourselves it's likely to go away, that would not be the facts. The Republican Party has long been on a path towards authoritarian instincts. It appears it has succumbed to these instincts; we as a people must now grapple with that and hope there are still leaders within that once Grand Old Party willing to raise the truth and stamp out the lies.

Hey Nick, I just realized that your essays are on Substack where I have an account and subscribe, as you know, to historian Heather Cox Richardson's daily letters and just today I subscribed to Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin's essays that she just launched, and, as you know, I already subscribe to her daily podcasts through Patreon. Once I do my taxes, if I have enough money in my 2021 budget, I'll subscribe to your Substack essays. It seems so many good projects are vying for my funds these days.
