Impeachment
Take Two
Impeachment is a word any president would fear, but many presidents are typically sane individuals. Mr. Trump is not a rational individual. He is someone who did not care for this nation. He cared much about his family and their wealth, but little else. While going into the second Impeachment Trial of Mr. Trump, we should not hold out hope for Republican saviors. Three Republicans will likely cross over and vote to convict Mr. Trump. The magic number for taking away Trump’s security detail, pension, and the remainder of his benefits is 17, and you need 17 Republicans to cross over and vote to convict. Getting 17 Republicans to show courage is unlikely. If Senator McConnell would cross party lines and vote to condemn Trump, Trump would likely be convicted, but I would not hold my breath for that to occur.
We cannot afford to forget about what happened on January 6th of 2020. We must continue to remember what Republicans did to sow division and doubt about our electoral process. We must continue to insist on accountability before unity. Our nation cannot begin to heal unless we hold Republicans accountable for the big lie they attempted to tell about our elections. Republicans will be held accountable, but only if the Democratic Party gets the message right.
