Infrastructure Week
Could be called Climate Mitigation Week
It is officially infrastructure week; President Biden has signed the bipartisan infrastructure bill into law. Thirteen Republicans decided to cross the aisle in support of the infrastructure package. The law includes 110 million for roads, bridges, and significant infrastructure repairs. Included in the law is 16 million dollars for climate change mitigation projects.
The infrastructure law provides money for rail projects; one of the more exciting things is that it includes 65 billion for upgrading the nation's broadband access. The government should invest in broadband access so that children may have a more equitable beginning when it comes to education. It would also remove barriers to those seeking employment who cannot afford a broadband plan.
The deal includes 7.5 billion for zero-emission transit vehicles in the United States. Those claiming this infrastructure package isn't a climate bill are fooling themselves. One could argue it's climate mitigation week.
