Polls
And what they miss
Edition # 68
We need to discuss the issue that the media bubble is obsessed with, polling, especially regarding Democrats and President Biden. The poll leaves out this: 92 percent of Democrats would support President Biden if he were the nominee. Many observers of politics are advancing the idea that President Biden is old and, therefore, that should disqualify him from running for a second term. These observers fail to mention that this should be part of a broader conversation.
The generic congressional ballot is breaking in a way for Democrats that it shouldn't be in the midterm election. Comparing the generic congressional ballot numbers from 2010, a Democratic blowout, Republicans were leading in all generic congressional polling. This won't be a blowout election. It won't be a referendum on President Biden.
Perhaps we need to place an age limit on those seeking the highest office in the land. I'm against an age cap on seeking the White House and any other office.
Suppose Democrats want to get serious about winning the midterms. In that case, they should stop talking about how terrible the Democratic Party is and start talking about the Biden accomplishments and the Biden plan. The achievements of this administration are many; Republicans want to focus on issues that are out of the President's control, like gas prices and inflation. Indeed, both are kitchen table issues, but what is the Republican plan for bringing down the cost of gasoline? What is the procedure for bringing down inflation? The Republican Party has no plan for bringing down inflation or dealing with gas prices. The entire party would rather complain about the issue than work with the administration to pass meaningful legislation to hold oil companies accountable for price gouging or any other problems facing the American polity.
