Student Loans
Today the Biden administration has formally announced that the pause on student loan repayments will be lifted in June of 2023. This drastic turn ensures that the US Supreme Court adjudicates the legality of student loan forgiveness. The Biden plan allows for &10,000 dollars of debt held by the Federal Government to be forgiven so long as they make less than $125,0000. Couples who make less than $250,000 and $20,0000 of debt held by Pell Grant holders.
According to the numbers from the government, about 26 million Americans have applied for student debt relief under the Biden Plan since it was announced in August. Republican officials who decided to sue the federal government because it violates the individual rights of Americans won in lower courts, which is why President Biden has had to put a pause until June 2023.
Those who have applied for student loan forgiveness have now received notice from the Federal Government if they qualified to have their loans discharged. This could set up an even more powerful argument for the courts to settle; what happens when those who have received a notice saying they qualify can no longer have their loans forgiven? All of those people also deserve redress from their government.
