Teach the Children
We are on the brink of a new administration, one that will embrace hope and unity, no doubt, while also attempting to deal with the dual crisis of a pandemic and Democracy in decline.
I’ve been away for a few days visiting family, and it’s occurred to me through conversations about how one should discuss the crisis with young people. For our purposes, when I refer to young people, I’m talking to elementary school children, two diverging views come up. You don’t discuss any of the day's news versus the other idea of discussing what occurred during the day. While I have no children, but I do have and enjoy time with my nieces and nephews. We must explain what is going on in the world.
Young people have the unique ability to understand the human condition a bit clearer than adults who are already jaded to everyday life's realities.
We must discuss the issues of the day, including how our nation is facing a dual crisis—the one of dealing with a pandemic and then those who want to tear the entire country apart.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, read this about poverty in America.
