The Realignment
Part II
Edition # 73
This is part II of The Realignment, the focus on part II is on the Democratic Party in the United States and where their coalition is going.
The Democratic Party is moving towards a coalition that is not like the Democratic Party of the present or even of the past for that matter unless we go back to the dark days prior to the Civil Rights Movement. In short the Democratic Party is becoming more white, while the Republican Party as noted last week is becoming more multiracial. The Democratic Party coalition is cracking, and that spells doom for the Democratic Party going forward.
The Democrats are becoming more elite, those who hold post bachelors degrees are increasingly focused on issues of abortion and increasing gun regulations, making them more likely to join the Democratic Coalition, whereas those who hold a high school diploma are more likely to remain in the Republican column. Some of this is conventional wisdom, however many non white working class voters are focused on economic issues, they are not focused on social issues and therefore they are more likely to shift to the Republican Party.
When one looks at Hispanic voters who many in the Democratic Party long thought was the key to the White House and massive majorities in the coming future what is clear is they are leaving the Democratic Party for the Republican Party solely because of economic issues. The Democratic Party is on a slow trajectory to being locked out of power for a very long while if they don’t find a way to win the coalition that the party has always been able to win.
Put simply the vast majority of Americans remain moderate voters on virtually every issue and the idea that one is going to focus on social issues will be the downfall of the Democratic Party.
Many voters do not wish to hear about defunding the police, they wish to hear about how you will reform the police and curb crime, they view many in the Democratic Party as out of touch to the daily issues they experience even though the Republican Party remains unflinching in their policies of helping the greedy.
