Our Democracy is still heading towards a path of ruin, we can watch it die or we can decide to do something about it and that begins by opening books.
One of the best books that I have read lately is “On Corruption in America and what is at stake,” by Sarah Chayes. The book deals with the most corrosive force in America today money, the text delves into the issue from biblical times to the present. The text makes it clear that the only way to become a billionaire is to be corrupt.
Chayes has had a very interesting career not only as a journalist but also as someone who went on to advise the U.S. Government when it comes to Afghanistan and how to defeat corruption overseas. She then turned her attention to the United States and was becoming increasingly alarmed at the rates of our fellow citizens stashing their wealth.
Something that struck me about the data is that back in 1979 over 50 percent of Americans favored a cap on corporate profits. (This is paraphrased but if you are interested in the full quote buy the book)1
Anyone who is concerned about the future of Democracy should buy this book. Politicians should read the book.
